Reading Goals 2023: An Update

This week’s topic: reading goals I still want to accomplish before the end of the year. We just started the last quarter of 2023 so I will revisit the goals from January and see where I am on them – have I accomplished any of them? Have I given up on any of them? Which ones am I still working on?

1. Read more than I did last year.

Last year I read 12; currently, I am at 9. So there is still hope that I will beat last year.

2. Write book reviews as soon as I finish the book.

ugh….this has been hit or miss. (I feel like it has been more misses). But I am still trying so I haven’t lost hope!

3. Read through the books I already own.

It is a work in progress HA! Have I bought more books, even though I already have so many? Yes. So, it will be an ongoing goal.

4. “Weed” my bookshelf.

This needs to happen. I have mentally worked on it, but I haven’t physically gotten a stack together to donate to the library.

5. Be on my phone less so that #1 can be accomplished.

oh…this is still an issue. Y’all, I try.

6. Don’t focus on just “new” books.

This is a yes and no. I have bought new books, but I also bought books during Amazon Prime Days that aren’t really new anymore.

7. Don’t be afraid to DNF (did not finish).

Done! I started a book, that I had previously quit, and I just couldn’t get into it again this time. So, I, with absolutely no regret, quit it, and I don’t plan to try it again.

8. Read/re-read more “classics”.

To be honest, I haven’t even thought anything else about this. But the year isn’t over so maybe I can get one or two read.

9. Use StoryGraph more to keep track of reading.

This is almost a fail…but there are still almost 3 months left in the year so maybe I can get caught up.

10. Stop comparing my reading to others.

I have to say, I am better at this. I still wish I could get more books read within a month, but I also know that I am extremely busy most of the time, so if I can’t get more than one, if even that, then it is ok.

Yes! I want to, and try to, correct it, so I guess that’s something. I haven’t given up so hopefully I will get much better at it.

HA! Well, I did it for maybe one month and it has been a struggle since. But I’m still trying to accomplish it.
