Puffins, Lobster, & a Near-Death Experience {Part 1: Days 1-3}

Bar Harbor, ME is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. Vacationing in Maine has been on my (& my mom’s) bucket list for years so I’m glad we were finally able to go! (and almost a year later, I’ve finally gotten a post about it).

I’m dividing this into 3 posts so that it isn’t so lengthy.

[Day 1] : July 4 (also my mom’s birthday) – we worked a half day and then drove to Nashville to catch our flight to Boston, MA. Since it was an afternoon/evening flight, we were flying mostly at night. It was the 4th of July and we were able to see fireworks from above (at 35,000ft, they look like tiny, colorful flashes of light).

Seagrams & sunsets

We arrived in Boston and took a taxi from the airport to our hotel.

Our hotel was July 4th festive!

Our hotel was next to Charles River (looking at the map, it is almost centered between Harvard Square and Fenway Park.)

[Day 2] : July 5 The next morning, after breakfast, while waiting on our rental to arrive at the hotel, we enjoyed watching kayakers on the Charles River. (I describe these kayaks as toothpicks).

Once we got the rental, we headed North(east) toward Bar Harbor!

Boston = tunnels

On the way, we drove through Kennebuckport, ME. If you know anything about the Bush family (the presidential Bush family), you probably know this is where they have a home. We did not see their home because we only drive through the town and got back on our way to Bar Harbor.

We also stopped in Freeport, ME at…L.L. Bean! Once we arrived in Bar Harbor, (after the craziness of getting to the motel via twist and turns due to road construction), WE. WERE. IN. LOVE! I don’t know what else to say other than it was cute!

adorable!

After getting the key for our room, unloading the rental, and unpacking, we set out to explore this adorable coastal town.
We ate supper at the Thirsty Whale. I had the lobster roll (insert all the heart eyes!) with a salad.

When we finished supper, we set out to explore this beautiful little coastal town. We then stopped at Coffee Hound, which is across the street from Agamont Park.

(I honestly think I could be happy living in a tent at Agamont Park!)

[Day 3] : July 6 Friday morning, we got up and walked to Two Cats for breakfast. There was a light rain and a waiting list but the rain didn’t hinder the business AT ALL. Once we were seated, food was ordered, and drinks were delivered, I was starting to see why. I ordered a Maple Latte (because morning = coffee, even on vacation)…DELICIOUS!!! (I want one right now!

Unfortunately, I had developed a headache (probably due to the weather system that brought the rain), so all I could do was go back to the room and rested. (
I wasn’t happy about messing up a day of vacation with a headache!).

love the birch trees!

After rest, a nap and medicine, I felt much better so it was time to head back out for dinner.
We decided to eat at Stewman’s Lobster Pound. OMG! The food is delicious and the view is breathtaking! I think this is probably one of my favorite places to eat…ever! (You will see it again in another post).

I had “The Pier House Catch: The Boat Docks Here” (which is: Amber ale battered haddock fillet, sweet belly clams, crispy shrimp [subbed for extra clams], scallops with french fries, cole slaw and tartar sauce) and my mom had “Classic Maine Lobster Roll” with sweet potato fries.

After dinner, we decided to walk the Shore Path. It is exactly as it sounds-a path along the shore of Bar Harbor. The length of the path itself is 1.5 miles but we continued on through Bar Harbor so it is possible to get in more miles.
