To see where we visited on days 0-2, check it out here, for days 3-5, here, and days 6-8, here.
Day 9: Reykjavík (shopping, Harpa)
This day was spent mostly shopping and eating, and a planned show at the Harpa (Icelandic Sagas: The Greatest Hits). First up was breakfast at Grái Kötturinn (which means “the Grey Cat”). I had the “Cuban” Sandwich [bread, ham, cheese, garlic, mustard, salad, red onion, & virgin oil] and my mom had Crocque-madame [bread, ham, fried egg, cheese, salad, black olives, & virgin oil].
Next stop was the Christmas Shop. (We actually visited a lot of shops but I will only hit the highlights). Since I (we) love Christmas so much, this store was like heaven! 🙂 Another store we visited was “The Viking”. It was a cool souvenir store selling all things…you guessed it…viking! Another huge favorite (…because it is where we got our Icelandic wool blankets) was Rammagerðin.
For lunch, we went to Reykjavík Fish.
We continued shopping, looking for souvenirs, before heading to the Harpa for Icelandic Sagas: The Greatest Hits. This show is hilarious (I don’t have any pictures of the show and the videos are too large to post. Just take my word for it…or, better yet, go to Iceland and see it for yourself).
Before heading back to the room, we went to Hallgrímskirkja just to see it lit up at night.
Day 10: Reykjavík (Hallgrímskirkja for church)
This day was basically eating breakfast, going to the 2 o’clock English service at Hallgrímskirkja, and a little bit of shopping, visiting the Volcano House, eating supper at Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur (apparently Bill Clinton ate at this exact place when he visited Iceland), and then packing for the trip back to the States the next day.
Day 11: flight from Keflavík to Newark: Newark to Memphis
This day was spent heading back home: Keflavík to Newark, layover for 5 and a half hours, then to Memphis!! Side note…but fact: Keflavík airport has really cool bathrooms!
Love this quote on the wall in the airport!
Goodbye Iceland:(
Once we left Iceland and headed toward Newark, not long into the flight, the pilot came on the speaker and told the ones sitting on the right side of the plane to look out…Greenland was in view. Thankfully, my mom was sitting on the right side of the plane!
Landing in Newark, I was able to see New York City:)
After a long, exhausting travel day, we were both passed out before the plane left the runway in Newark.
Comments
We went to Iceland for our tenth anniversary in July 2008. We were only there for five days but we LOVED it!
(I'm not sure why I'm just now seeing your comment) Yes! I can't wait to go back…someday!
