Bookish People I’d Like to Meet

This week’s topic is bookish people we’d like to meet. I’m going to break this down into a list of book characters I’d like to meet, and then a list of authors I’d like to meet. But before I start my list, I honestly would love to meet every single Top Ten Tuesday blogger. They all seem like cool people, and we all have books in common!

Book Characters I’d Like to Meet:

1. Katniss Everdeen from Hunger Games trilogy

Katniss is a “beast”, no doubt about that. She was going to do what she needed to, for her sister, by taking her place in the Hunger Games, even though she knew she could die.

2. Mab, Osla, & Beth from The Rose Code

Osla was born rich, but wanted to be seen as a “normal” person. Osla was born and raised in poverty, but wanted to prove herself as socially accepted. Beth was a shy, but extremely brilliant girl. They all led different lives, but they also had the skills to help break codes during World War II. As a math major, I would just like to hang out with them and learn from them.

3. Polly from Little Beach Street Bakery

She lives in a flat, above a “soon-to-be” bakery, on the Cornwall seaside. I mean, even if I didn’t talk to her, I would be just fine just being there. But I’m sure I’d talk to her 😉

4. Kya Clark, from Where the Crawdads Sing

I just want to meet her. She pretty much raised herself, and although she was “a little different” (at least what most people thought), she was smart and had survived the hard-knocks of life. She is cool in my book:)

5. Hercule Poirot

I just love his character, his personality. Honestly, if I was around him all the time, he’d probably get annoying. But, to just talk to him, or even just watch him work, it would be intriguing.

Authors I’d Like to Meet:

1. Peter Heller, author of The River, The Guide, and soon-to-be-released The Last Ranger

I love the way he describes the settings and people. His descriptions are so real, and I feel like I’m there, in the book. I can see the river, and the fire, the boat, etc. He does so well with the settings that it makes me think he is an adventurer, someone who hikes and canoes and kayaks and camps.

2. Jenny Colgan, author of The Bookshop on the Corner, Little Beach Street Bakery, Christmas at the Island Hotel, and many many more

A good number of her books are set at the sea/ocean/on an island, so clearly she likes the beach. Some of her books are about bookshops, so she obviously likes books. Books & beach- she’s my kind of person. I think we could be friends.

3. Sarah Morgenthaler, author of The Tourist Attraction, Mistletoe & Mr. Right, and Enjoy the View

I loved these books. I have been to Alaska, and love it, and want to go back, so I want to ask her if there will be more to the Moose Springs, Alaska books 🙂

4. Jeanine Cummins, author of American Dirt

When I read this book, I did a little bit of research to see if this was based on a true story, and I found out that her father and grandmother are both Puerto Rican. I want to hear her story & their story.

5. Tsh Oxenreider, author of At Home in the World: Reflections on Belonging While Wandering the Globe

She and her family (husband and 3 kids) traveled to 30 countries, 4 continents, for 9 months. She knows the ends and outs of so many countries. I want to travel with her! She knows the good stuff (and also, the things to avoid).
