It’s the end of February which means it is time to talk about the books I read.
Get Out of Your Head: Stopping the Spiral of Toxic Thoughts by Jennie Allen
★★★★
Our thoughts can lead to a spiral, whether positive or negative. In this book, Jennie
Allen shows us how to get out of that toxic downward spiral of negative thoughts.
From her own dark destructive downward spiral, she was able to pull out of it with
God’s help. He built us in a way so that we have the power to fight and win the war
that goes on in our minds. The enemy is determined to keep us overwhelmed, feeling
helpless, and incapable of making a difference. When we learn to fight those toxic
thoughts, we are able to have a positive mind, which improves our bodies and
souls, spiritually, mentally, and physically. I am a positive person (I absolutely cannot
stand negativity) but there were things in this book that I do have issues with and it
helped me! So, even if you think you are a positive person, you will still find help with
something in this book.
The Impossible Long Run: My Journey to Becoming Ultra by Janet Patkowa
★★★★
As a child, Janet ran…a lot. As she got older, it became harder to run because of work,
basically life in general. But, she knew that it was the best form of fitness for her. She
also knew that in order for her to keep running, she had to be motivated. She joined
running groups because it helps to have people to run with. She signed up for half
marathons, and marathons but still, she needed something to keep her going. She
searched in the Internet for motivation and found the Becoming Ultra project. She
would have a trainer and would be interviewed and “followed” throughout the project.
She knew this was the motivation she needed. This book is her account of her
thoughts and feelings and the process of….becoming ultra.
