[June] 2024: Book Review

It’s time to look at the book I read in June!

The Woman in the Green Dress by Tea Cooper

★★★★.5

Fleur, a London teashop waitress, anxiously awaits her new husband Hugh’s return from the Great War. On Armistice Day, she instead receives word of his death. With this news, she also receives word that he has left her a huge fortune, one she knew nothing about when they married. She does not want this inheritance, but she must go to Hugh’s home country of Australia to deal with it, one way or another.

When she arrives in Australia, she soon learns there is more to the inheritance. She discovers that she is the sole owner of a remote farm, a curio shop (full of forgotten artifacts and well-preserved creatures), and a mystery that started sixty-five years earlier. With the help of Kip, a former soldier dealing with his own aftereffects of the war, they begin to dig into the past. What they discover is a cursed opal and, who is this woman in the green dress? By digging into the past, they bring each other hope and healing for the future.

If you like historical fiction, I would recommend this book! Even if you aren’t sure about historical fiction, I would say it is definitely worth checking out. I have gotten into historical fiction lately, but I think this one is my favorite so far. I was completely captivated until the end!

It really is! I wasn’t sure how much I would get into it, but when I read about it, it sounded interesting enough. But I am so glad that it sounded “good enough”. I think it will be a book I think about for a while.
