[MARCH] 2022: Book Review

It’s time to look at the books I read in March!

The Guide by Peter Heller

★★★★.5

At Kingfish Lodge, behind a locked gate, wealthy clients can escape from “the” virus and just get away from it all. Kingfisher Lodge is located in a canyon and along a mile and a half of some of the most beautiful river water, which the locals call “Billionaire’s Mile”. Jack, trying to find some normalcy in life, lands a job at Kingfisher Lodge doing one of the things he loves – fishing. On his first night, he is exploring the waters and discovers that Kingfisher Lodge is surrounded by a meadow and a barbed wire fence with a sign that reads “Don’t Get Shot”. He is assigned to guide a well-known singer, and he all he has to do is rig her line, carry her gear, and find her the best fish in the water. After his first day as a guide, they both hear a human scream in the night. They soon realize that there is something sinister going on.

I really could not stop reading this book! Peter Heller is a great writer and I was intrigued throughout the entire book. I had already read “The River” so I knew he was an author that I wanted to follow. I will say, I like that I had read “The River” before “The Guide” because there is a reference to events that took place in “The River” but you could read them out of order and it would not affect the storyline at all.
