Hello Monday / Weekend Update {5.15.23}

It was a busy, but good weekend! A little relaxing, a little cardio, a little self-care, a little celebrating, and a lot of Jesus ๐Ÿ™‚

Friday/Friday Night

It was pretty low-key. I started laundry because I knew Saturday would be busy. I got running clothes together and laid out for Saturday, ate supper, and watched “Shakespeare & Hathaway”. Then I went to bed and read.

Saturday

Up at 5:30 am, I fed the cats and got ready for the 10K. The race was in a town 45 minutes away and I still needed to pick up my packet beforehand, so I left the house around 6:20 and headed south. I honestly did not think I would run but I was dressed and headed there, just in case. Backstory: Sometime during the day on Friday, I started thinking, I can’t do this. Not that I didn’t have the ability because I did. But there was just something that made me think I can’t do this run. I honestly didn’t know if it was the Lord trying to protect me, or if it was just feeling some kind of way. So, naturally, I prayed about it Friday night. I needed to know if I needed to run, or even go to get my shirt, so I prayed. When I woke up Saturday morning, I felt better about it but still wasn’t entirely sure what I would do, other than go pick up my packet, but I went prepared…just in case. All the way there, I still wasn’t sure what I would do after I got the packet, but I was feeling better and had decided that I would be fine with whatever I ended up doing. So, I arrived, parked, and headed to pick up my packet. Even then, I wasn’t 100% sure if I would stay and run, or go back home.

As I was walking back to my vehicle to put my shirt up, I realized, “I want to do this and I can do this.” So, I texted my mom and let her know that I would, in fact, be running. So, I put my running belt on, and headed to the porta-potty line HA! You gotta do what you gotta do! I then headed toward the starting line.

I found some of my running friends, the gun went off, and we were off! The course is hilly and not shaded (except for a spot here or there). It was hot (way hotter than it should have been before 10 am) but I survived, crossed the finish, vertically HA!, and got that finisher medal.

With the run over, I headed back home. I had stripped by bed before I left so I needed to put clean sheets on my bed.

they were “helping” (it looks like Luna & Lucy were having a “discussion” in the background) LOL

I ate “breakfast” at about 11 am (it was coffee, two cooked bunless hot dogs, and sourdough toast). My grandmother had come over to our house to visit so we visited with her while I ate. Pretty soon, it was time for a shower. My mom and I both had mani/pedi appointments and I definitely wasn’t going in race sweat so I had to get it before I left for the mani/pedi.

Once the mani/pedi was over, my mom and I went to a local restaurant. This restaurant has been downtown for several years and for some reason, we have never eaten there (and we live 5 minutes away so there’s no excuse lol). We were warned that it was expensive and that is true but the food that we got was DELICIOUS!!! I got the Surf and Turf and I think it was the 2nd most expensive thing on the menu but it really was worth it. We actually both Surf & Turf but got the lobster cooked different ways (and a different side).

With leftovers in hand, we headed back home where we did a little church work, and then watched the last episode (currently) of “Shakespeare & Hathaway”. I loaded the dryer and headed to bed to read.

Sunday

It was Mother’s Day ๐Ÿ™‚ The morning routine didn’t change from any other Sunday (feed cats, get dressed, stop at Starbucks), but the order of church was different. We had Sunday School, the children sang, we had a congregational song and then two praise songs, and then, instead of our Pastor’s sermon, he had 6 women speaking on different topics. Most were sad but as one person put it, “The most raw Motherโ€™s Day service Iโ€™ve ever experienced. This is what church is supposed to be about. The testimonies. The real of the real.” <– yep! That sums it up!

In addition to the special Mother’s Day service, we also had a “Bake Auction” going on. Several desserts were made, and bids were made on them. The bidding was open before Sunday School, back open in the 10-15 minutes between Sunday School and worship, and then for 10 minutes after church. It has been a big fundraiser for the Ladies’ Ministry and this year was no different. It is always fun to watch the excitement over some of the bidding. There were also some individual desserts sold, for those that didn’t need a bunch of cake or pie.

Once church was over, we headed home to relax. We ate Saturday’s Surf and Turf leftovers while watching the first episode of “Citadel” and then headed to my grandmother’s house to visit with her for a while. Once we got back home, we ate mini cheesecakes (from the bake auction) and watched episodes 2-4 of “Citadel”, then it was off to bed.
